eBay to offer Australians free delivery and returns

eBay has taken the fight up to Amazon with plans to offer Australian online shoppers free delivery and returns.

For an annual $49 fee, eBay Plus will give shoppers unlimited deliveries and returns on new items bought from thousands of Australian retailers.

The new service will be launched in mid-June.

It will match the rival Amazon Prime which offers members free delivery and other services such as video streaming, in return for a monthly subscription.

Amazon Prime is not yet available in Australia.

It is more expensive than eBay Plus coming in at a $US99 annual fee. Chances are the Australian subscription fee will be higher.

The eBay service will also create more upheaval for Australia’s bricks and mortar retailers who charge online customers a set delivery fee until they reach a certain spending threshold.

eBay Plus will offer delivery on 15 million listed items, fee returns, special deals such as 60 per cent off on popular items and early access to new products, bonus flybuy points and a dedicated customer support team.
